Handheld Enclosures For Medical Devices

There are 19 different models in OKW’s handheld enclosures range – so there’s no shortage of choice. These are some of our most popular handheld housings for medical electronics:

CARRYTEC – a robust attaché-case-style enclosure with a strong integrated handle and optional IP 54 ingress protection. CARRYTEC has a large flat front for mounting a display or membrane keypad; the underside has a protected area for connectors and switches.

Specify CARRYTEC in tried-and-trusted ABS or tough, UV-stable ASA+PC-FR. Accessories include holding clamps for bed rails, and docking stations for charging and data transfer. CARRYTEC can also be mounted on a suspension arm – the handle serves as a grab to enable easier maneuverability.

SLIM-CASE – slim but capacious mobile-phone-style enclosures with virtually frameless design and optional IP 65 protection. SLIM-CASE can accommodate displays and touchscreens up to four inches.

It is suitable for inductive charging using NFC technology with Qi chargers – and is available with a choice of three different tops (flat, 0.04” recess, 0.06” recess). Options include a soft-touch TPE intermediate ring for added comfort.

CONNECT – dedicated enclosures for wired electronics such as remote controls or USB interfaces. CONNECT comprizes two enclosure shells – one flat, the other curved – offering a choice of fronts. Snap-together construction with no screws means faster installations. Accessories include bedrail holding clamps, wall-mount holders, and cable glands with kink protection and integrated strain relief.

STYLE-CASE – elegant enclosures that fit perfectly in the hand. Their high-gloss finish looks very smart and is easy to keep clean. Choose from UV-stable ASA or infrared-permeable PMMA (for remote control applications). The integrated battery compartment can accommodate either two AA or two AAA cells. IP 65 protection is optional. Accessories include wall holders and flexible cable grommets.

SOFT-CASE – comfortable, soft-contoured enclosures for wide-format displays or membrane keypads. These versatile enclosures are suitable for handheld, desktop and wall-mounted electronics. The raised mounting panel on the wide edge allows you to fit more connectors.

SOFT-CASE is available with/without a battery compartment (2 x AAA, 4 x AA or 1 x 9 V). Choose your enclosures molded from ABS or infrared-permeable PMMA as standard. Accessories include a tilt foot bar for desktop viewing; soft-touch intermediate rings and a Combi-Clip kit for clipping to a belt or wall suspension element.

Wearable Enclosures For Medical Electronics

BODY-CASE fits a standard 18 mm watchstrap but can also be hung on a neck lanyard, clipped to a belt or pocket, attached to a key ring or carried loose. These IP 65 enclosures are molded from glossy UV-stable ASA for superior esthetics and easy cleaning. Standard options include the choice of a smooth or a recessed top. Accessories include charging stations (including a multi-unit option), an 18 mm wrist strap, spring bar tool and an eyelet/pocket clip kit.

MINITEC is an award-winning range that offers a huge choice of standard permutations based on size, shape, colour and type of attachment ring. Choose from two different designs (teardrop or rectangular) in either ABS or PMMA.

All MINITEC enclosures comprise a top and bottom separated by an ABS, PMMA or soft-touch SEBS intermediate ring. These rings offer a great choice of mounting options as standard; dedicated Micro USB rings are the latest addition to the range. Accessories include a wrist strap, carrying straps, a strap eyelet, key ring and USB cover.

Customized Handheld and Wearable Enclosures For Medical Devices

All OKW enclosures can be specified fully customized – so they can go straight from Goods In to your production line, ready for the installation of components. Customization is now quicker, easier and more cost-effective than ever thanks to new technology. This also makes it available and viable in lower volumes.

OKW’s vast range of standard enclosures means it doesn’t take many customization steps to transform an off-the-shelf case into a machined and fully branded housing that is ready for your PCBs. The full range of customization services is available in-house – so you deal with a single supplier who is fully accountable for the finished product. This ensures quality, saves time and reduces administration. Services include:

• CNC machining – milling, tapping, engraving, drilling, stamping, countersinking and tapping.
• Lacquering – from matt to glossy, metallic and color tones, soft-touch (such as artificial leather), antibacterial paint, ESD conductive lacquer to prevent electrostatic discharges.
• Printing – photo-quality digital printing of legends, logos and graphics on plastic with a height difference up to 0.055"; screen and tampo printing defined according to RAL, many Pantone shades or your own sample.
• Laser marking – ideal for small machine-readable markings such as QR codes, barcodes, DataMatrix codes, consecutive numbering of individual parts.
• Decor foils – in batches from one unit. Again, with consecutive numbering, codes and technical specifications. Graduated colors are also available.
• Special materials – specify enclosures moulded in flame-resistant V-0 plastic and/or in custom colors or translucent plastic.
• RFI/EMI shielding – OKW’s ALVACOAT® is a 99.99% pure aluminium coating that is vaporized and applied in a high vacuum to a thickness of around 2.5 µm. Other coating thicknesses are also available. ALVACOAT is certified to the UL 746 C standard for polymeric materials.
• Installation and assembly of enclosure accessories such as fitting cable glands, belt/pocket clips, tilt foot bars and wall suspension elements; applying keyboard and decor foils and display windows; mounting assemblies and installing components; assembly and packaging.
